Collets are the part of a rotary tool that actually holds the bit in place. When placing a bit in a tool, the shank of the bit slides through the top of the collet nut and into the collet. As you tighten the collet nut, it squeezes the collet, gripping the bit and holding it in place. Many rotary tools will accommodate interchangeable collets. Most high speed air tools accept 1/16"(1.6mm) bits. Collets are size specific: ie 1/16" collets will only hold bits with a 1/16" diameter shank, etc. For your convenience, when ordering bits please be sure that your collet size and the shank diameter match.
